Charity auction seeks to raise funds for lifesaver’s dream
A charity auction is aiming to raise funds for the family of a recently deceased young athlete from the Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Tim Kirkby died in May at the age of just 28 after succumbing to an ongoing battle with cancer.
Tim’s friends have now set up an online auction to help raise funds for his young wife Emily and son.
Among the 45 items up for auction are signed photo collection of cricket’s ‘Invincibles’ touring team from 1948; a Masters pin flag signed by the legendary Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player; and a luxurious golf stay and play package at The Vintage Golf Club in the Hunter Valley.
Other items include a Tiger Woods-signed photo set and golf ball (which comes framed and, like all the memorabilia featured, includes a letter of authenticity); a Trek Cruiser E-Bike; a scenic helicopter flight; and an Argentinian football jersey signed by Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona.
Several of the items reflact his passion for the NRL's Rabbitohs.
Bidding closes at 9.30pm on 14th November.
Items for auction include:
• South Sydney Rabbitohs signed jersey
• Beatles framed photo collection signed by Paul McCartney
• Australian Cricket Legends - 1948 Invincibles

Tim Kirkby
Tim Kirkby (pictured) was first diagnosed with Lymphoma when he was 19 years old - but he fought hard and was in remission by the time he met Emily one year later in 2012. Unfortunately, the Lymphoma returned when Tim was 22. But, again, he recovered. This time with the help of a stem cell transplant and further chemotherapy treatment.
Emily and Tim married each other in 2017 and their son Arlo was born two years later thanks in large part to IVF. Devastatingly, however, Tim had been told he had another, rarer form of cancer. He had received the crushing news just two weeks prior to his son’s arrival.
He succumbed to the cruel disease on 14th May 2020, one day before Emily’s birthday.
As a lifesaver he was an elite athlete competing regularly at state and national level while developing a passion for teaching and coaching a new generation of Freshwater members.
