Centennial Parklands: Sydney’s indoor and outdoor gym

Sometimes described as Sydney’s ‘best outdoor gym’, Centennial Parklands also features the Centennial Health Club, based at the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park.

Described as “a specially crafted designer space where you will actually look forward to working out”, Centennial Health Club (pictured below) believes it is “a gym with a philosophy, and one that knows the challenges of modern life and trying to fit exercise in a busy daily routine.”

Centennial Health Club Director Andrew Bovill explains “we have a top of the line cardio suite, free weights and strength machines and run a huge range of new and exciting fitness classes, as well as yoga and Pilates.

“We find that a lot of people tend to equate health with fitness (but) this is not necessarily so.

“Although fitness is an indicator of health, it by no means qualifies you as healthy just because you’re fit and in shape.

“We look to bring this message out in our programs, and support this through an on-site nutrionist and naturopath.

“We also have a range of Qi Therapies available within the gym, to provide a more rounded approach to your health.”

In addition to hosting a wide sporting community, fitness activities including group training and boot camps, and more passive wellness pastimes such as yoga, Centennial Parklands also features several outdoor gyms.

The popular Queens Park Fitness Station was upgraded earlier this year while, in October, the Centennial Parklands Foundation secured a $20,000 grant from the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation to revive and upgrade a depilated fitness station located near the Park’s Woollahra Gates.

Work on upgrading the fitness station is due to begin early in 2015.
