Census shows growth in industry employment growth

Recently released figures from Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) have shown a 21.6% growth in sport and physical recreation occupations between 2001 and 2006.
The figures, from the 2006 Census of Population and Housing, show that at the time of the last Australian Census, 75,155 persons were employed in sport and physical recreation occupations. Of those employed in a sport and physical recreation occupation, the largest numbers were reported for fitness instructors (13,800 persons), greenkeepers (12,138 persons) and swimming coaches/instructor (7,588 persons).
Of the 75,155 persons, there were more males (44,443/59.1%) than females while 20-24 year olds represented the largest group employed in sport and physical recreation occupations (13,043/17.4%).
Over 90% of persons were employed in the private sector.
