Casula Powerhouse lights the way with the installation of new LED lighting system

The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre is lighting the way for culture in Western Sydney with the installation of a new environmentally friendly and cost effective new LED lighting that is set to enhance events and exhibitions to Liverpool, while reducing carbon emissions and the Centre's running costs.

The new LED lights, which were unveiled at the recent opening of the Subject to Ruin exhibition, replace the traditional tungsten ones and will see an 84,000 kilogram (80%), reduction in carbon emissions each year. It will also bring annuak cost savings of $26,000 to the Centre.

Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre Director Kiersten Fishburn said she is excited about the numerous benefits the new technology will provide, particularly the opportunity to bring more high-quality exhibitions, theatre performances and events to the region.

Fishburn explains "the addition of the new LED lights exemplifies what we try to do here at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in always looking for ways to improve how things are done and how to deliver the best events to our community. With the new system, we will now be able to compete with major institutions for events on a technical level – it truly presents us with fantastic opportunities."

Liverpool City Council Mayor Ned Mannoun said the installation of the LED lighting at the Centre is a great initiative and reflects a progressive and environmentally-minded community.

Mayor Mannoun added "Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre is yet again leading the charge and shaping the way in which we as a community view the arts.

"These new lights see our city moving ahead with our commitment to the environment and they add to the technological capabilities of our wonderful cultural facilities."
