Carlingford’s Peggy Womersley Reserve transforms with new $3.2 million pavilion

Carlingford’s Peggy Womersley Reserve has been transformed with the completion and naming of a new $3.2 million pavilion.

Carlingford is located approximately 15 kilometres northwest of Sydney in the Shire of Baulkham Hills.

The newly named JJ Brown Pavilion brings the facilities at the much-loved ground into the 21st century including new changerooms, storage facilities and a kiosk.

City of Parramatta Chief Executive Gail Connolly noted “Carlingford deserves state-of-the-art facilities.

“The new JJ Brown Pavilion has everything a local sports team needs off the field to back a win on the field.

“It’s an exciting step forward as we transform Peggy Womersley Reserve and other suburban grounds into top quality sports facilities.”

NSW Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper added “Local sporting infrastructure plays a critical role in keeping communities healthy, active and connected and these new facilities mean the Peggy Womersley Reserve will better meets the needs of the Carlingford for years to come.”

The new pavilion has been named in honour of the former Federal Member for Parramatta, the Honourable John Joseph Brown AO, who served the community in Federal Parliament for 13 years from 1977.

During his tenure, Brown held multiple Ministerial portfolios including Arts, Sport, Environment and Territories. He was also the founding Chairman of the Tourism Task Force (now the Tourism and Transport Forum) and founder and patron of the Sport and Tourism Youth Foundation.

In 1986, Brown was named Australian of the Year by The Australian newspaper and was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1993 for service to the Australian parliament, tourism, sport and recreation.

The J.J. Brown Pavilion has been funded by City of Parramatta assisted by $1 million in funding from the NSW Government’s Greater Cities Sport Facility Fund.
