Campbelltown City Council wins Parks and Leisure Australia event award
Campbelltown City Council in South Australia was the recipient of the Award for Excellence in Events at the national Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) awards.
Presented at the recent PLA annual conference in Newcastle, the Council received the award for its Campbelltown Moonlight Markets which were judged to have demonstrated industry best practice and innovation in their delivery as well as exceptional economic and community outcomes.
The national award followed on from the event winning the PLA South Australia/Northern Territory Regional Awards.
PLA member John Wood also recived the Frank Stewart Distinguished Service Award for services to the parks and leisure profession.
Other award winners included:
Award for Inclusive and Connected Communities (Joint Winners): ASPECT Studios for the Pop Up Park in Dandenong and Latrobe City Council and Wellington Shire Council for the Grand Strzelecki Track, Tasmania;
Award for Sustainable Initiatives (Joint Winners): North Sydney Council for the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability and Toowoomba Regional Council for its Street Tree Masterplan;
Award for Leisure Facilities: Toowoomba Regional Council for the Toowoomba Cycling Criterium Track;
Award for Open Space Development: Hobart City Council for its North-South Track;
Award for Parks: City of Yarra for its Victoria Park Redevelopment;
Planning Award: City of Whitehorse for its Whitehorse Play Space Strategy 2011;
Play Space Award: Wollongong City Council for the Towradgi Park Regional Play Space;
Award for Events (High Commendation): City of South Perth for The Secret Event.
