Bushfire evacuation centre opened at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre
Out-of-control bushfires in Western Australia's south have prompted the opening of an evacuation centre at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre over recent days.
The facility opened for people fleeing fire about 60km northeast of the city.
Firefighters have been battling more than 60 fires across Western Australia, with the South Coast Highway closed yesterday as hot and windy conditions intensified the blaze.
The bushfire was downgraded overnight to an advice level, with firefighters now mopping up.
