Burwood Council commits to Enfield Aquatic Centre upgrades

Burwood Council in inner western Sydney has unveiled plans for upgrades to its Enfield Aquatic Centre that include a new 25 metre pool.

Explaining that the upgrades will cater for a surge in demand from the community, Burwood Mayor John Faker advised “swimming is an important life skill, and it's great exercise.

"We want to make sure our residents have the opportunity to enjoy the water close to home."

With Council committing $2.2 million to the centre this financial year, new and improved facilities at the centre include a viewing platform for spectators.

The 50 metre pool, built in 1933 and one of the oldest in Sydney, will also benefit from new shading structures.

The plans will have to go to the Burwood Local Planning Panel and, if approved, council expects the works to be completed next year.

Beyond this program, the Council also plans to provide a new multipurpose exercise room, an improved reception area and more parking at the facility.

Those upgrades are likely to come within the next few years.
