Bundaberg Regional Council moves forward with plans for Bundaberg Regional Aquatic Centre and Anzac Park redevelopment

The release of Bundaberg Regional Council's 2022/23 budget has committed to a capital investment program focusing on priority infrastructure upgrades including the Bundaberg Regional Aquatic Centre and Anzac Park redevelopment.

The Council's commitment to the revitalisation comes after a project analysis revealed the significant financial impact of further delaying the project.

Current estimates show that leaving the Anzac Pool open for another season would add an additional $1.3 million to the cost of the overall project. However, the decision regarding the timing of the Anzac Pool demolition as part of the redevelopment of the Anzac Park precinct has been deferred with the Council undertaking the usual maintenance work at the pool during the winter closure.

The $19 million redevelopment of the precinct aims to create new recreational spaces, a flexible outdoor event space and a memorial avenue commemorating the region’s service personnel.

Plans for the development of the Bundaberg Regional Aquatic Centre, which is set to begin construction later this year, include a 50 metre undercover competition pool, a 25-metre heated indoor pool, an indoor program pool, a café and spectator area.

The new regional aquatic facility is to be built next to the Bundaberg Multiplex Sport and Convention Centre - a site about 2 kilometres from the site of the Anzac Pool on the Burnett River waterside.
