Broken Hill Council cautious about reopening cultural facilities

Broken Hill Council has advised that it won't be rushing to reopen its cultural facilities following the NSW Government's recent announcement that cultural facilities in the State could reopen from 1st June 2020

Council's General Manager, James Roncon, said facilities would reopen once Council was in a position to do so in a safe and prepared manner.

Roncon noted "like most Councils across NSW we were quite surprised by the announcement regarding galleries and libraries, it wasn't something we'd have expected until late June at the earliest.

"The announcement comes with a lot of conditions, so we'll have to sit down with our staff and see how and when these can be implemented to facilitate gradual reopenings.

"We'll also need to undertake risk analysis and workplace health and safety assessments to ensure we meet all government mandated conditions.

"It's difficult to provide any opening dates without going through all those processes with staff from each facility, but we certainly won't be rushing to meet the 1st June reopening date.

Roncon added "throughout this pandemic we've taken a very cautious approach to all our facilities to ensure the safety of staff and the community, and we'll continue that course of action in this instance."

Roncon said Council would keep the public updated once proposed opening dates are established.
