Brisbane Table Tennis Centre launches over 55 women’s initiative

The Brisbane Table Tennis Centre is launching a free come and try table tennis program designed for women over 55 years old.

The Centre, in the Brisbane inner northern suburb of Windsor, aims to attract local women with an interest in the game with the new program.

Participants in the program are expected to range from women who have never played before to skilled players who had a break from the sport and are now keen to get back into it.

The two-hour sessions will offer the chance for women to improve their racquet skills and enjoy the game in a friendly environment. All participants need do is to complete a survey about their sport participation.

Commenting on the success of similar past initiative, Coach Cathy Townsend said “women of all ages, but particularly those who are over 55, have been able to experience the inner-city table tennis facility and have some fun with getting out and getting active with like-minded people.”

Table tennis has social benefits, particularly with older players, as it is a sport people can participate in no what their age. Participation in table tennis often offers cross-generational social interaction.

The free table tennis sessions have been made possible with the support of the Queensland Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing under the ‘Get Out, Get Active’ program.

The free program will be held at Brisbane Table Tennis Centre in Windsor, Brisbane on each Monday from 5th February 2018.
