Bodyfit hosts industry visit for Souths Cares Participants

Fitness industry career opportunities have been presented to students from Souths Cares’ Liverpool Opportunity Hub and Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) programs during a recent visit to the Bodyfit Gym in the Sydney suburb of South Eveleigh.

The initiative brought together 15 students from Ashcroft High School, Casula High School, SEDA College and South Sydney High School to learn about career pathways within the fitness industry and enhance student’s knowledge of training and holistic health.

Held earlier this month, the industry visit kicked off with an introduction to the Bodyfit team and staff sharing their personal career journeys within the fitness industry.

Students were then given a tour of the facility and participated in a group training session with Bodyfit trainers; receiving some great insights into techniques and principles of fitness. The group then discussed the importance of nutrition and holistic health, whilst enjoying a protein shake with the Bodyfit team and their Souths Cares mentors.

Explaining how the students were eager to learn about the industry, Rhys Wesser, Careers and Education Pathways Advisor for the Liverpool Opportunity Hub, commented “our students were highly engaged … and were keen to learn about the career pathways available within the fitness industry.

“The Bodyfit staff members were extremely welcoming and shared a wealth of knowledge with our program participants.”

SEDA College student Shanelle Lyons, who enjoyed the opportunity to see how the gym operated, noted “it was a great opportunity to see behind the scenes at the Bodyfit gym and learn about what it takes to become a personal trainer.

“The highlights for me were definitely the group training session and of course the delicious protein shakes.”

The Bodyfit and Souths Cares partnership continues to flourish, with Bodyfit supporting Souths Cares through a range of other initiatives including personalised training sessions for program participants, co-branded merchandise and suppling training gear to support young people live healthy and active lifestyles.
