Blacktown Leisure Centre celebrates 11 million visitors

The Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope (BLCS) has recently recorded the admission of its 11 millionth visitor in its 12 year history.

The milestone was reached when Blacktown resident Emilie Ritchie took her 21 month old daughter Imogen to a recent swimming lessons - becoming the Centre’s 11 millionth visitor. Ritchie’s eldest child Lachlan, aged four is also a part of the BLCS’ Surfees Swim School Program, which since opening has conducted over 350,000 Learn to Swim lessons.

Commenting on the attendance achievement, Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali stated “Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope is a valuable facility for the people of Blacktown offering a diverse range of programs and activities. It is fantastic to see it reach yet another milestone.”

Since opening in February 2003, Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope has continued to grow and develop.

Construction is now underway on the next addition to the Centre – the Blacktown Regional Tennis Centre.

Due to open in 2016, the facility will offer 16 plexi-cushion tennis courts including a ‘show court’, and a two court indoor stadium (to match the existing stadium courts), changing rooms, remote reception, multi-purpose rooms and additional car-parking.

The Council has also recently undergone an internal restructure which has seen the development of a new Key Venues section to manage its nine aquatic, recreation and sport venues.
