Black Rock Life Saving Pavilion redevelopment to commence
Bayside City Council advises that works are soon to commence on the Black Rock Life Saving Pavilion redevelopment at Black Rock beach, situated 20kms from Melbourne CBD.
For over 90 years the existing pavilion has provided a home for the Black Rock Life Saving Club’s members and volunteers. The clubhouse is in urgent need of restoration to provide modern and fit-for-purpose facilities for life savers and accommodate both its growing membership and the increase in visitors to Black Rock Beach.
The pavilion was designed using feedback that was collected during an extensive community engagement process in January to February 2021.
The new pavilion will include:
Improved viewing areas for patrols
Gender neutral changerooms and new accessible public toilet facilities
Two accessible car parking bays
Increased storage facilities and a dedicated first aid room
Repairs to the beach ramp adjacent to the lifesaving club and installation of new handrails will assist access to the beach. A new accessible path will connect DDA parking to the pavilion to ensure the building is fully accessible.
During construction temporary site sheds will be installed at the foreshore for the storage of life saving equipment, first aid facilities and viewing points to enable the life savers to continue their work to keep the community safe.
The $5million development will be complete in late 2023, ready for the summer season.
The Victorian Government is contributing funding of $2 million towards the project.
