Belmont Oasis trains lifeguards of the future
Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre launched their Junior Lifeguard Club program recently with 12 keen and excited swimmers participating.
As a Royal Life Saving WA Endorsed Swim School, the Society has been supporting Belmont Oasis with resources to aid them with the launch.
All 12 students worked through several swimming and lifesaving skills over 16 weeks to achieve their Bronze Star certificate.
With 46 endorsed Junior Lifeguard Clubs in Western Australia, the Junior Lifeguard Club program helps to bridge the gap for swimmers who want to continue their aquatic education journey but don’t want to go on to competitive squad style swimming.
The program teaches a range of swimming skills as well as aquatic safety and lifesaving skills. It provides the opportunity to increase swimming ability in a fun, dynamic and educational way.
Another main aim of the Junior Lifeguard Club program is to provide a pathway for students from swimming lessons through to the Bronze Medallion and onto extension courses such as Pool Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor to provide real employment opportunities.
Students are taught real life rescue skills as well as being introduced to the lifeguard environment, such as the first aid room.
