Western Australian Governor named new Royal Life Saving WA Patron

Royal Life Saving Society WA has announced that Western Australian Governor and former Federal Labor Party leader Kim Beazley AC is its new Patron.

The Western Australian Governor has traditionally been the Patron of the Royal Life Saving Society WA, so when former Governor Kerry Sanderson's term expired on the 1st May this year, it also meant that there would be a change in the position of Royal Life Saving WA Patron.

As a result, Royal Life Saving WA President Colin Hassell wrote a letter to the new Governor, inviting him to fulfill the Patron's role.

Royal Life Saving Society WA advised on their website that “this invitation was happily accepted.”

Beazley is the 33rd Governor of Western Australia, and prior to taking up this role on the 1st May had dedicated almost three decades to a career in Federal Parliament, representing the Western Australian seats of Brand and Swan.

In 2009, he was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia for service to the Parliament of Australia through contributions to the development of government policies in relation to defence and international relations, and as an advocate for Indigenous people, and to the community.

Royal Life Saving Society WA aded “we are pleased to have Mr Beazley accept the role of Patron for our organisation, and look forward to working with him in the coming months and years to promote our aims, to reduce the impact of drowning in our state and ensure all West Australians have an opportunity to learn vital swimming and water safety skills.”
