Belgravia Leisure to manage redeveloped Tobruk Pool in Cairns

The contract for the management of the Tobruk Memorial Pool in Cairns has been awarded to Belgravia Leisure.

Located within the rapidly growing North Cairns Sporting Precinct, the Pool, the region's highest profile swimming facility, is currently half way through a $22 million redevelopment.

When complete it will include a new 50-metre 10 lane Olympic pool, wave pool, fully shaded areas, grandstand seating and upgraded amenities ­including a reception area and kiosk.

Commenting on Cairns Regional Council's award of the management contract, a Council spokesperson told The Cairns Post “Belgravia will be investing in additional infrastructure at the pool after it takes possession and Council is working with Belgravia to ensure the ­facility is open to the public as soon as it is complete."

Construction began in November last year and is expected to be finished by early next year.

Opened in 1962, the Tobruk Memorial Pool was built to commemorate the contribution of the Desert Rats of Tobruk during the Second World War.

Belgravia Leisure is now recruiting a Centre Manager for the facility, seeking "a professional manager with vision, leadership and energy."
