Belgravia Leisure partners with SEDA Sports to provide qualification opportunities

Facility managers Belgravia Leisure has partnered with SEDA Sports (Sports Education and Development Australia) to provide a range of qualification opportunities for high school students.

The SEDA Sports program's curriculum offers professional qualifications to Year 11 and 12 students wishing to pursue a career in sport, recreation and related industries.

Throughout 2013 Dandenong Oasis facility in South east Melbourne regularly hosted students from the SEDA program as they progressed through their studies under the guidance of their teachers. The students were provided with valuable practical experience within the busy aquatic and recreation centre which saw them organise and assist with a number of member and community events.

One of the most successful projects was a fun run event which raised money for the Cancer Council. With this event, students were involved in researching possible routes, organising prizes and coordinating the operational and administration requirements.

In 2014 SEDA will have a regular onsite presence at Dandenong Oasis and other Belgravia Leisure managed centres across the country with classes being conducted at each centre. Students will be able to gain a number of qualifications as part of their curriculum, leading to increased practical experience and involvement in the day to day operation of the centres. Students will be able to put their newly acquired skills and qualifications to the test in areas such as on reception, in swim schools and on pool decks performing lifeguarding duties.

The growing partnership between Belgravia Leisure and SEDA aims to foster the next generation of leisure professionals and harnesses the passion that youth brings.

SEDA Sports students can graduate with Sport and Recreation Certification from levels II to IV with opportunities to progress onto a Diploma of Sport (Development). SEDA Sports' program curriculum is broadly based to provide pathways into careers in sport and recreation, other like industries, or to articulate into higher education in areas such as human movement, marketing, teaching, sports coaching, administration and business.
