Belgravia Leisure joins with County Manukau Sports to engage more children in sport

Recently established in Auckland, Belgravia Leisure has already moved to create a relationship with County Manakua Sports to engage more local children in organised sports.

Belgravia Leisure, which began managing four facilities for Auckland City Council at the beginning of July, has also partnered with the Ministry of Health’s Green Prescriptions health promotion initiative by offering discounted memberships to boost physical activity among those who need it most.

Commenting on the partnerships, Belgravia Leisure Chief Executive Nick Cox highlighted the significance of Belgravia Leisure being one of the first international operators to manage New Zealand government aquatic and recreation facilities.

Cox explains “our new General Manager New Zealand, Mark Blake, brings a strong understanding of New Zealand’s local government operations, local health and wellbeing needs and Iwi engagement.”

Key initiatives being undertaken by Belgravia Leisure in New Zealand include:

• Supporting Auckland City Council’s $2 million Mt Albert Pool redevelopment by investing $50,000 in upgrading the main entrance and new reception area
• Investing $500,000 in the Franklin Swim, Sports and Fitness Centre, with $300,000 of this specifically to upgrade new fitness equipment
• Providing up to 90 new jobs for local communities across the four managed sites.

Belgravia Leisure is also working closely with AUSTSWIM New Zealand and working towards creating new partnerships with other industry bodies such as the Water Safety Council New Zealand.

Belgravia Leisure currently partners with more than 40 local and state government authorities, employs over 3,000 staff in approximately 100 swim, sports, fitness and leisure facilities across Australia and New Zealand.

In the past five years, Belgravia Leisure has invested more than $6 million in infrastructure and equipment upgrades at Australian Local and State Government facilities.

Belgravia Leisure is Australia’s largest commercial operator of aquatic and leisure facilities. Belgravia Leisure is part of the Melbourne-based Belgravia Group, which also owns Genesis Fitness Clubs and Corporate Health Management (CHM).
