Basketball Leaders Gather for Summit

A who's who of Australian Basketball's most influential leaders will gather in Sydney tomorrow (22nd May, 2010) for a think-tank to help set the strategic direction for the sport's future at the 2010 Basketball Summit.
Over seventy of Australian basketballâs most highly-placed administrators have been invited by the Board of Basketball Australia to attend the day-long meeting in Sydney.
Those invited to attend include the Chairpersons and Chief Executives of all National Basketball League (NBL) and Womenâs National Basketball League (WNBL) teams, the Presidents and Chief Executives of all eight State and Territory bodies, the President and Chief Executive of the SEABL competition and the members of all five of Basketball Australiaâs Commissions (High Performance, Competitions, NBL, Associations, Honours and Awards).
A particular focus of the Summit will be on the pathways for athletes and coaches to successfully transition from the grassroots to the high-performance end of the sport.
Basketball Australia Chief Executive Larry Sengstock says that the gathering will be a vital part of the sportâs continued planning for success.
âWe held our first Summit meeting last year and the feedback we got was so overwhelmingly positive that it became clear that it was important to hold these types of gatherings on an annual basis,? said Sengstock.
âItâs vital for us as we continue to grow the entire sport of basketball, from grass roots through to high performance, that we ensure everyone understands the strategic direction the Basketball Australia Board is taking. The Board also utilises this sort of meeting to help access the vast knowledge of our senior leaders around the country to help shape our vision for the sport.
âAs we look to tap into the true potential of the sport of basketball in this country, with its massive participation base of over 600,000 registered participants, we need to listen to feedback from the best minds in all strata of the sport,? Sengstock continued.
âThis gathering of key stakeholders is a huge undertaking but one which is invaluable to the future success of basketball in this country.?
