Banyule City Council opens WaterMarc facility
Banyule City Council is today opening its WaterMarc multi activity regional centre in the northern Melbourne suburb of Greensborough.
Opening today (Wednesday 5th September) and with its grand opening celebrarion scheduled for Sunday 9th September, WaterMarc is the largest aquatic and recreation facility in Melbourne's north.
Funded by Banyule City Council, with contributions from the Federal and Victorian Governments, the $42 million project demonstrates huge innovation in the provision of aquatic, recreation and wellness services with facilities that will deliver excellent results for all users - from the first time casual swimmer to the most dedicated of exercisers.
Home to the premier gym and indoor swimming pool in the area, with a wide range of fitness classes and training programs, WaterMarc offers:
• A health club with over 120 pieces of equipment (900 metres2);
• Three group exercise studios group fitness, wellness & cycle studios;
• 50 metre indoor pool which can be converted to two x 25 metre pools;
• Learn to swim pool;
• Leisure/toddler pool;
• The door tantrum alley water slide (an Australian first) from WhiteWater West;
• Huge water play space including a 'zero depth' aquatic play area/spray park;
• Warm water therapy pool;
• Spa, steam and sauna;
• Childcare;
• Personal Training;
• Café; and
• Community spaces.
Designed by Peddlethorp architects and built by ADCO Construction, WaterMarc was developed in close consultation with a Community Consultation Committee , comprising local residents, the president of the Greensborough Traders Association and local business people.
Managed by Belgravia Leisure, WaterMarc has held two soft openings for members, Council staff and their families; and for the Community Consultative Committee.
Banyule City Council Leisure Facilities, Place and Partnerships Co-Ordinator Thomas Zappulla reports that "feedback from these sessions has been overwhelmingly positive, with many people commenting that the friendly, helpful and professional staff were especially wonderful."
Sunday's 'Grand Opening Celebration' will enable access to all areas of WaterMarc for just $5, which includes unlimited rides on the tantrum alley and pipeline water slides.
The event will be attended by Olympic swimmers Michael Klim and Matt Welsh and will include a program of free entertainment.
