Bankstown teenager the one to beat at Par 3 Championship
Upcoming young golfer Kevin Yuan will be teeing off for a win when the NSW Par 3 Championship returns to Sefton Golf Course next month (15th April).
After taking home the Men’s Scratch title last year, the 19-year-old Chipping Norton resident is looking to make it two in a row at the championship.
Looking forward to the event, Yuan explains “this year is all about improving all aspects of my game before I turn professional next year.
“You don’t get to play many courses like Sefton where the greens are small and require great accuracy. It’s a great test of your short game, more than any other golf course.”
“This event will help a lot of junior players because of the greens and the atmosphere.”
Registrations are now open for golf enthusiasts who have a Golf Australia handicap.
Another talented young player who benefited from last year’s Championship was Kevin’s 17 year-old sister, Celina Yuan.
She adds “the Par 3 Championship was a really good learning experience for me. It was challenging judging distances and I had some trouble with my short game, but the course is pretty good,” said Celina.
Like her brother, Celina Yuan finished first in the women’s division last year but will not be back to defend her title, as she will be competing in the Australian Junior Championships on the same day.
Mayor of Bankstown, Khal Asfour, said golfers wanting to test their skills should consider following the Yuan’s lead, stating “the NSW Par 3 Championship is a great opportunity for golfers of any ability to take advantage of the unique playing conditions at Sefton Golf Course.
“The course includes a number of hazards and the relaxed atmosphere of the competition means players of all ages can enjoy themselves.”
Players with a Golf Australia Handicap can register by calling 02 9743 9436.
Entries close 4pm on Thursday 7th April 2016.
