Bahrain officials vow to deliver safe F1 Grand Prix
Bahrain Grand Prix officials have pledged to deliver a safe race next month despite fears from Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone about growing unrest in the country.
Bahrain International Circuit Chief Executive Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa vowed to do everything possible to ensure the event goes ahead as planned from after at least two protesters died in anti-government protests, stating "the safety of all Bahraini nationals, expats and overseas visitors is a priority at all times in the kingdom and, at the Bahrain International Circuit, our focus at the present time is on delivering another successful event in the form of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
"We are monitoring the situation very closely indeed in association with the relevant authorities, and will respond appropriately to any further developments."
Expressing his fears, Ecclestone stated "the danger is obvious isn't it? If these people wanted to make a fuss and get worldwide recognition it would be easy, wouldn't it? You start making a problem on the start grid in Bahrain and it would get worldwide coverage."
The Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, the opening race in the 2011 F1 calendar is scheduled to take place at the Bahrain International Circuit, Sakhir, from 11th to 13th March.
