Backed by Plus Fitness Adelaide revs up for Clipsal 500

Preparations are in full swing at Adelaide’s Victoria Park with just nine days to go until the V8 Supercars season opener at the 2015 Clipsal 500 Adelaide, which runs from 26th February to 1st March.

South Australian Tourism Minister Leon Bignell this week toured the track with South Australian Motor Sport Board/Clipsal 500 Chief Executive Mark Warren to check the progress of Adelaide’s iconic street circuit as South Australia prepares to host its 17th Clipsal 500.

Minister Bignell explained “this is a great time of year in Adelaide with the Fringe Festival adding so much colour and entertainment.

“The 2015 Clipsal 500 is the most exciting yet. There are seven race categories and an awesome off-track entertainment program headlined by the return of legendary Australian rock band Cold Chisel.

“Adelaide’s street circuit is loved by fans and will test the country’s best drivers in two 125km races on Saturday, and the top ten shoot out and 250km race on the Sunday. Ticket sales are up and the track is almost ready, it’s going to be a huge weekend.”

Warren said construction is on schedule and the long range weather forecast looks promising ahead of an action packed four days of racing and entertainment.

He explained “we might get a sprinkle of rain in the lead up to freshen up the grass but otherwise the weather looks fantastic.

“We can’t wait for the event to get underway next Thursday.

“It’s traditionally a huge day on track for school visits and fans will get their first taste of the music talent on show with Justice Crew and Nathaniel performing.”

An exciting addition to the support category line-up is the world’s newest form of racing, the Toyo Tyres Stadium Super Trucks. The Clipsal 500 will be the first time these 600 horsepower V8 trucks will compete for points outside North America.

Ferrari will also be a part of the 2015 event, with the world’s best known automotive brand set to unveil the official Scuderia Ferrari F1 Show and the Ferrari Supercar display - a public display of the world’s rarest supercars including the F40, F50 and ‘LaFerrari’.

The Australian GT category will also be returning for the first time since 2012, while the Dunlop Series, Touring Car Masters, V8 Utes and the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia all remain on the fixture.

In addition, legendary Australian rock band Cold Chisel is reuniting to headline another massive concert line-up, performing with Spiderbait and 100 Proof at the Sunday after-race concert.

Friday night will feature some of Australia’s hottest DJ’s including; Stafford Brothers, Havana Brown, Timmy Trumpet and Ruby Rose, while Saturday will play host to theTHE ZEP BOYS performing the music of Led Zeppelin, and celebrated rocker John ‘Swanee’ Swan.
