Awards recognise Tropical Pool innovation
Cairns-based pool design and construction company Placid Pools have been recognised for their development of an innovative water-purification system developed specifically for tropical pools.
Recognition for Placid Poolsâ âEco Splash Systemâ came at the recent Tropical Innovation Awards held at the Cairns Convention Centre, when it was awarded the top honour , Tropical Innovation of the Year.
The Eco Splash System is a water-purification system developed relies on natural biofilm cultivation, natural media, specific flow-rates and aquatic plants to produce crystal-clean pure water. The systemâs âbiomimicryâ eliminates chemicals and saves power and water by replicating nature.
According to the Smithfield based company, the technology ârepresents Australiaâs most advanced environmentally-sustainable natural-pool-technology and will revolutionise tropical pools worldwide.?
The company add that âthis invention has the potential to revolutionise not just the pool industry, with our current research and development focusing on possible applications in the rejuvenation of wetlands, remote monitoring of water quality on outback stations and the like.?
Co-creator of Eco Splash, Amanda Spelta , told the Cairns Post that she was overjoyed to accept the award on behalf of the Placid Pools team, stating "this means the future of sustainable pools can now move forward.
"We can now even look at other things like rejuvenating wetlands, and other things outside of the pool industry.ââ
Placid Pools received $10,000 alongside the award and is currently sourcing partners for these next stages of commercialisation of its invention.
