Aventuur signs long-term ground lease for Perth Surf Park site

Global surf park creator, Aventuur has signed a long-term ground lease with the Western Australian Planning Commission for the site of the Perth Surf Park.

Located on Prinsep Road, Jandakot, adjacent to the Kwinana Freeway and Cockburn Central, the $100 million Perth Surf Park will be accessible from the Perth CBD and Perth Airport within 25 minutes. Offering authentic surfing, wellness and cultural experiences, the Perth Surf Park will cater to local and travelling surfers, adventurers, experience seekers and families of all ages and abilities.

Featuring a 56-module Wavegarden Cove surfing lagoon, the park’s perfect waves will be complemented by accommodation, beach club, quality bars and restaurants, retail stores, a health & wellness centre, casual workspaces, a high performance surf academy, a hire store offering board, wetsuit and equipment rentals, regular events and high-quality landscaped amenities.

Aventuur’s experienced project team is currently progressing the Development Application for the Perth Surf Park. Subject to approvals being received from relevant authorities, the Perth Surf Park is expected to produce first waves in 2024, and open to the public for Summer 2024/2025.

The surf park will be Western Australia’s first, and is set to become a major tourism, entertainment and sporting destination for Perth. Expected to welcome more than 300,000 visitors annually, the Perth Surf Park will create over 260 jobs during construction, and contribute upwards of $250 million to the Western Australian economy over the life of the project.

WA Minister for Transport; Planning; Ports Rita Saffioti attended the lease signing and noted “It is great to see this exciting project, which will showcase Western Australia’s vibrant surfing culture, take a significant step forward with the lease agreement now confirmed.”

Commenting on the lease signing, Aventuur’s Chairman and Chief Development Officer Andrew Ross said “I couldn’t be more excited about reaching this major milestone to deliver Perth’s first surf park, and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, right here in Cockburn.

“Surfing is a deeply ingrained part of Perth’s culture, with around 300,000 Perth locals surfing regularly or participating from time to time. Yet it’s challenging to be a Perth surfer, due to limited access to quality conditions, crowded lineups and marine hazards. The Perth Surf Park will overcome these challenges, creating a world-class destination in WA that will provide opportunities for active recreation, tourism, sports development and job creation.

“We appreciate the support and commitment from the Western Australian Government to bring this unique project to life, and look forward to collaborating further with the Government, the City of Cockburn, Perth surfers and the broader WA surfing community to create a significant community asset that is by the West, for the West.”

City of Cockburn Mayor Logan K. Howlett added “today is an exciting milestone for Cockburn. Aventuur’s Perth Surf Park will be a fantastic drawcard and will only enhance Cockburn’s position as a magnet for families and lifestyle seekers.

“Cockburn Central is the future capital of the South Metro region of Perth, and the City of Cockburn is ensuring we leverage that accessibility to grow economic and employment opportunities in Cockburn. The future surf park is a prime example of that occurring.”

Surfing WA Chief Executive, Mark Lane enthused “we’re excited for a surf park in Perth, as it will deliver more quality waves for Western Australian surfers, and create a new surfing destination in the West. It will also offer a convenient location for people to try surfing for the first time, to learn and share the stoke with their family and friends.
