Australian Trade Commission to use sport in Indian trade

The Australian Trade Commission (ATC) has embarked on a plan to use sport as an effective marketing tool for trade in India.
Coinciding with the Ricky Ponting-led Australian cricket teamâs tour of the sub-continent, Australian Trade Commission (ATC) officials have embarked on a unique strategy of using sport as an effective marketing tool for trade and investment.
Building on the work of Business Club Australia that began at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Michael Carter, ATC Commercial Counsellor, who also handles the subject of sports celebrities as brand ambassadors for Australia in different fields, has highlighted how Australia is using all major sports platforms including the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi to promote trade and industrial relations between the two countries.
As Carter told Indiaâs The Hindu newspaper âwe believe in the philosophy of sharing moments of joy on subjects of mutual interest and that is the reason why we are looking at these sporting events to achieve our targets.?
Carter recently attended the Hyderabad Race Club where he highlighted âin our country, horse racing industry is the third biggest in terms of revenue. So, we feel the prospects are very bright in gaining a firm foothold in the some of the related subjects like railing, starting gates, track designing here.?
Carter went on to explain, âas we look to India as one of the major trade partner in the evolving economic scenario, we are going to use the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi as a plank to project our expertise in core areas like infrastructure, security and surveillance, catering, architectural designing as these are essential ingredients to put in place a truly world class set up ready for the Games.
âNow, apart from the major metros in India, Australian Trade Commission is keen to spread its wings to the Tier-2 cities like Hyderabad, Pune where the emphasis will be on subjects which are very popular.
âWe are looking a resource-based relationship as part of our âDoing Business With Australiaâ concept.?
