Australian Surf Life Saving Championships returns to Western Australia

The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships - the 'Aussies' - returns to Western Australia from 25th March to  2nd April 2023 during which more than 5,000 surf lifesavers from across the country will descend on Scarborough and Trigg Island beaches.

The largest surf sports competition in the world, the event will boast competitors aged 12 to 80+ years old, taking part in more than 480 events across the nine days of competition.

Some of the biggest names in the sport will line up including reigning Australian Ironman champion Ali Day, who returns to racing after illness saw him withdraw from the final rounds of the Nutri-Grain Ironman Series earlier this year. He’ll face off against 2023 Nutri-Grain Ironman Series Champion Matt Bevilacqua and runner up Ben Carberry.

With defending Australian Ironwoman Champion Georgia Miller ruled out due to injury, former Australian Ironwoman champions Courtney Hancock, Lana Rogers and Harriett Brown will all be looking to claim another Aussies crown.

Among the line up will be Olympic kayak stars including current World Kayaking champion and dual Olympian Aly Bull and dual Olympic kayaker Riley Fitzsimmons.

The Masters competition will feature some of the legends of the sport including Ironmen Darren Mercer, Guy Andrews and Nathan Smith, as well as husband and wife former Ironman and Ironwoman stars, Wes and Jade Berg.

Competition gets underway this weekend with the Youth events, featuring nippers aged 12-15 years old who will take part in ocean and beach events across two days.

The event is free to the public and will also feature a Festival Zone with Sunset Markets, Children’s activities and much more.
