Polysoft success in the Big Apple

New York landscape architects from the Central Park Conservancy have chosen Australian safety surfacing experts PolySoft as the surface of choice for a makeover of one of Central Park’s 21 children’s playgrounds.

The Tots Playground, near Manhattan’s 67th Street, became the first of Central Park’s playgrounds to get a modern makeover during the northern summer of 2013. Its new circular-themed design was seamlessly finished with PolySoft, an Australian product globally recognised as one of the best playground surfacing solutions available today.

Whether toddlers see the raised circular discs of the Tots Playground as boats, islands or stages on which to hold forth, the surrounding PolySoft sea is benign, offering softer landings than concrete and less chance of breaking a leg.

Polysoft has achieved recognition for its excellent safety standing, in slip-resistance reports from independent testing authorities including the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

Based on a plastic derivative, PolySoft is also hygienic for bare feet, non-toxic and easy to clean and maintain. According to architects, PolySoft’s safety, vibrant UV-stable colours, thermal reduction properties and lateral strength are a winning combination. The product remains slip-resistant when wet, a quality that also came into play at the Tots Playground which is cooled in summer by fountains spraying intermittent mists of water over delighted children.

In Central Park, the Polysoft surfacing was installed by approved Canadian contractor Tapitec, in a blended mix of Midnight, Granite, Desert Tan, Crystal Blue, Alabaster, Morning Sky and Liquid Turquoise tones. PolySoft’s online colour mixer gives architects the flexibility of playing with combinations to perfect the mix for each installation.

Australian developed and produced, PolySoft playground surfacing has grown from humble beginnings in Sydney, to have installations in countries as far flung as Kuwait, the USA and Singapore.

The company now has offices in Sydney, Montreal in Canada, Ohio in the US, and in Dubai.

Explaining why the company has become a major player in the rapidly growing international market for beautiful and comfortable built environments, Polysoft Chief Executive Ophelia Zhu states “PolySoft can really enhance the safety, pleasure and playfulness of our cities.

“The concrete jungle is evolving, starting with a revolution in recreational playgrounds, parks and swimming pools.”

Successful international installations are a direct reflection of PolySoft’s dedication to excellence and focus on innovation. The surface itself is 100% recyclable and derives 40% of its materials from natural sources, which minimises the impact its manufacture and use have on the environment.
