Australian consultancy forges alliance with Formula 1 circuit designers

Australian events and motorsport specialist engineering firm iEDM (Integrated Engineering Delivery Management Pty Ltd) has formed a strategic alliance with German-based Tilke GmbH & Co. KG, the leading motorsport design architect and engineer for Formula One.

The partnership will be known as Tilke-iEDM pty ltd.

Tilke has enjoyed a long history in designing circuits and facilities for Formula 1, including most recently Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi; Sepang, Malaysia and Shanghai, China. Tilke also completes architectural projects such as hotels, tourism products and test circuits.

The Directors of Australian-based iEDM have been involved in the design and delivery of motor sport based events for more than 20 years. Specialising in tourism, leisure and event engineering, motorsport engineering and project management, iEDM is the V8 Supercars championship series engineer of choice and has created such acclaimed street events as the Townsville 400 in North Queensland and the Sydney Telstra 500.

Hermann Tilke and iEDM Chief Executive, John Howe, met during a visit to Germany last November at the annual Professional Motorsport Expo. The two immediately established that they had similar philosophies on the industry and the future of developing world class venues for the highest levels of global competition.

The new partnership of Tilke and iEDM brings a unique blend of excellence and experience of operating to the highest standards in the world's most demanding environment. With a genuine ability to span the globe, this partnership allows both parties to collaborate and engage with each other in opportunities throughout the Australasian and Pacific regions.

Introducing the partnership, Tilke explains "bringing together the shared expertise, knowledge and passion of our Tilke-iEDM partnership is a significant development in our industry that is alive with possibilities.

"No matter what the environment or location, I firmly believe that our shared strengths will enable us to reach further and deliver incredible results. I look forward with tremendous excitement towards new challenges which we will be able to reveal in the near future."

V8 legend Mark Skaife, an exclusive consultant to iEDM for 15 years in developing Supercar circuits within Australia, added "this is terrific news, as it will allow both parties the opportunity to create interesting and challenging circuit layouts through their combined expertise and world renowned skill sets. Exciting projects underway in the Asia Pacific region will be announced shortly."

For iEDM's John Howe, the company's recognition in the global environment is a reflection of the standards it has attained at a regional level and its potential to innovate on a global platform.

Howe explains "Tilke GmbH & Co. KG has consistently raised the benchmark of design and engineering for motorsport facilities globally, and to join forces with engineers of such a calibre opens a new chapter for iEDM.

"We have worked very hard to develop a niche engineering firm which specialises in providing practical and innovative solutions. The invitation from Herman to form this partnership is a real pat on the back for our dedicated team, confirming that their achievements have been recognised world-wide."

Based on calls by London-based media and British Formula 1 fans for an F1 track around the London 2012 Olympic site, iEDM have created a 3D animated visualisation of a temporary street circuit around the Olympic Precinct.

Based on construction photos and images available over the web, iEDM have created a challenging motorsport venue that showcases the visual imagery of the 2012 Olympic city.

While not an official London Olympics initiative the visualisation has generated favourable fan and media comments.
