WorkSafe Victoria issues school holiday reminder on climbing wall safety

In the wake of a series of incidents at indoor play centres where members of the public, including children, have sustained injuries after falling from artificial climbing structures, WorkSafe Victoria has released a safety alert for employers at indoor climbing centres.

Noting that "with school holidays around the corner, it’s important not to let increased workloads at indoor play centres compromise safety", the guidance reminds operator of risks from climbing equipment and the need to maintain safety standards during busy school holidays.

In October last year, an indoor play centre in Maribyrnong was fined $60,000 for two breaches of the Occupational Health and Safety Act after an incident where an eight-year-old girl fell from a rope ladder.
