Australian backed wellness resort presents a new approach to lifestyle tourism

With wellness-based activities and resorts a growing sector in tourism, a new resort in Bali is offering a unique location where individuals, families and groups can indulge in an active lifestyle holiday.

Located at Keramas on Bali’s eastern coastline, the Hotel Komune is an holistic fitness and wellness destination, currently offering 66 rooms and with an overall orientation towards active lifestyles and programs.

Developed by Australian fitness entrepreneur Tony de Leede, developer Tony Cannon and pro-surfer Luke Egan, the ‘health hub’ draws on de Leede’s experience at the Gwinganna Health Retreat on the Gold Coast, to offer an experience targeted at those looking for a wellness orientated break.

Designed to be the most comprehensive fitness, lifestyle and wellness resort in Bali, the Hotel Komune Health Hub features three yoga decks, three areas for conventional equipment training, a functional training space (for CrossFit and F-45style training) and an outdoor training area.

Pavilions and facilities have been designed to allow yoga groups and classes to host their own retreats, with groups able to customise their own retreats.

The spa and wellness space offers eight wet and dry spa treatment rooms backed by a health cafe and organic gardens.

Aquatic space includes a 25-metre lap pool and, just metres off the shore, one of Bali’s top surfing breaks.

The resort’s location also looks towards Bali’s mountains with one of the yoga decks enjoying sweeping views of the island’s volcanoes and ocean.

Located in a largely undeveloped part of the island, the land on which the resort stands was acquired five years ago with its backers investing in the now fully operational resort.

While further accommodation is to be added, the resort is well placed to cater for the growing demand for wellness tourism experiences.

The resort is able to cater specifically for groups and has already catered for Australian fitness groups and team-building as part of a collective active holiday experience – having recently hosted a 90 person Australian ‘power living’ group.

With a wealth of classes and experiences available within the resort, groups can also enjoy other Bali’s attractions outside the Hotel Komune’s boundaries including scuba diving, mountain biking, trekking and nature-based experiences.

Equally, the resort can cater for special events including weddings and functions while its aquatic facilities also make it family and child-friendly.

Many of the touches within the resort owe much to Tony de Leede’s Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat on the Gold Coast with restaurant produce sourced from its organic farm.

However, de Leede explains that Hotel Komune is a resort rather than a retreat, describing it as delivering a “Gwinganna ‘lite’ experience.”
