Auckland Mayor seeks answers after Eden Park test
Auckland Mayor Len Brown will be talking to residents, officials and Auckland Police after the rugby league double header at Eden Park last weekend.
Brown, the Mayor of the new unitary council, says while the transport plan for the event appears to have worked well, there are questions surrounding the enforcement of the liquor ban in the area surrounding the park.
Mayor Brown stated that "it is important to get the organisation around major events as good as it can be so we minimise any negative impacts and make the event as enjoyable as possible for those attending."
Mayor Brown says the city must learn from the events of the weekend so residents, spectators, visitors and participants all enjoy the spectacle that Rugby World Cup 2011 will be, adding âthe eyes of the world will be on Auckland in 10 months time and we all want to show the city at its best."
The Mayor noted that Auckland Transport rated the event 'nine out of 10' in terms of ensuring safe, efficient traffic and spectator flows.
Mayor Brown has welcomed that and the council organisation's undertaking to review the transport plan with residents.
