Auckland and Melbourne among five cities shortlisted for Ultimate Sports City Award

Auckland, Calgary, Copenhagen, London and Melbourne have been named on a 2014 SportBusiness Ultimate Sports City shortlist.

The SportBusiness Ultimate Sports Cities Awards are the internationally recognised and longest established rankings of the world's top sports hosts. They have been held every two years since 2006.

Cities have been selected and will be ranked by SportBusiness' expert judging panel who all have extensive knowledge of sports events and the destinations that host them.

Five-city shortlists have also been announced for the Extra Large, Large, Medium and Small city categories (see below). The Extra Large category is for cities with a population of seven million or above, the Large category for populations between three to seven million, Medium category (population of between 1.3 million and 3 million) and finally, the Small category is for cities with a population of 1.3 million and below.

Awards will also be presented to the winners of the following categories and the top five contenders for each category will be announced shortly: Best Hosting, Best Venues, Best Transportation, Best Accommodation, Best Event Strategy, Best Legacy, Best Quality of Life, Best Public Sports Interest, Best Security, Best Marketing and Branding, Special Award - Best Home-Grown Event, Special Award - Best Newcomer.

The final results will be announced at the SportAccord International Convention in Antalya, Turkey on the morning of Thursday 10th April.
