Aquatics Recreation Victoria launches new Qualifications
The Smart Connection Company and Aquatics Recreation Victoria have partnered to launch a series of aquatic industry qualifications.
The qualifications are at three levels:
Leisure Traineeship (Certificate III in Sport and Recreation)
This level aims to attract a potential young workforce and school leavers from years 10 to 12, making it easier with funding from the Government to train interested students while providing opportunities for work experience. The training organisation will work with both the school, the recreation and leisure centre and provide them with all of the basic qualifications such as Level 2 First Aid, Pool Lifeguard or AUSTSWIM, and Certificate III in Sports and Recreation. With ongoing employment at the conclusion of the course, they can then receive further funding for the next level of qualifications.
Leisure Certificate (Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation)
This level is designed for both staff already working in facilities and new staff entering the Sport and Recreation Industry, providing them with the industry recommended Leisure Certificate. In addition this nationally accredited qualification (Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation) provides staff with the skills, knowledge and competencies to be able to perform different roles in the industry. In addition extra options are offered for specific skill development on a fee for service basis. These include the industry recommended Pool Operations Certificate (3 day intensive course), AUSTSWIM qualification, Level 2 First Aid and Pool Lifeguard qualification.
Level One Leisure Management Certificate (Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation & Certificate IV in Frontline Management)
This level is aimed at staff that are prospective duty managers, coordinators or are currently in this role. This is the industry qualification for everyone who is holding this pivotal position in the centre. The focus of the qualification is on management, including the systems and responsibilities for effective communication with teams and customers. It is the first step into management and an advancement on the Leisure Certificate with additional projects on business planning and a whole day duty managers workshop.
Employers may also be eligible for Government funding for staff to undertake these qualifications.
