Aquatics and Recreation Victoria conference to present industry opportunities

Emphasising how the aquatic and recreation industry touches a broad section of the community, next week’s Aquatics and Recreation Victoria (ARV) Industry Conference has the theme ‘Turning Challenges into Opportunity'.

Being held from Wednesday 24th to Friday 26th August at Melbourne Park Function Centre (MPFC), the Conference will emphasise how the industry involves the building and maintenance of millions of dollars in infrastructure and community assets and provides a significant economic contribution through its multiple employment opportunities and high levels of revenue generation.

The Conference Program will also feature three distinct content streams including strategic, operational and aquatic, and presentations by keynote speakers:

• Kimon Taliadoros - President of Football Federation Victoria - Developing a connected community with sport
• Dr Bob Birrell - President of Australian Population Research Institute, Demographer - Meeting the needs of our communities future
• Dr Rosemary Calder - Director, Australian Health Policy Collaboration - Government’s obligations & role in promoting and supporting physical activity in schools, workplaces and communities to help to get us active. 
• Matt Finnis - Chief Executive, St.Kilda Football Club - St.Kilda Football Club: From football club to community organisation
• Tennis Australia - Innovation, taking risks and re-engaging the community

Some of the topics which will be discussed include: 

• Connecting your aquatic recreation centre with your community
• Our communities in the future: what will their recreational/health/wellness/fitness needs be?
• Running aquatic recreation centres as a business
• Community and government partnerships
• Challenges of a staff restructure
• Innovative programming

On Wednesday 24th August 2016, prior to the first day of the Conference, ARV will include site visits to three of Melbourne’s newest, most impressive and redeveloped aquatic and recreation facilities: Cardinia Life , Pakenham; Warrigal Leisure Centre and Aquarena, Doncaster.The conference will also incorporate a boutique trade exhibition, involving a range of key industry suppliers and service providers, in addition to plenty of networking opportunities.

Currently there are still a limited number of trade stands available.
