Aquadome Named SA Facility of the Year

Playford Council and the YMCA of South Australia's Elizabeth Aquadome redevelopment has received the Facility Award in South Australia's 2010 be active recreation and sport industry awards.

In announcing the award, South Australia's Recreation and Sport Minister Michael Wright said the redevelopment project showed a well-planned approach to meeting community need for the region.

The Aquadome provides aquatic and recreation facilities including a crèche, a gym and a community room, while aiming to be environmentally sustainable.

Minister Wright explained "these awards give us a chance to recognise such groups, often run by volunteers, that consistently demonstrate exemplary leadership and vision.

"Well managed active recreation and sport engages and motivates people. The result is cohesive communities that are connected, and empowered with capacity."

The be-active Recreation and Sport Industry Awards are a biannual event coordinated by South Australiaâs Office for Recreation and Sport. The awards aim to recognise outstanding achievements and celebrate the vital role that sport, outdoor recreation, community recreation and fitness organisations play in building active, healthy communities.
