Australian Olympic Committee appoints new Chief of Public Affairs

The Australian Olympic Committee's (AOC) has appointed Vice President for The Committee for Brisbane - Jacob Anson - as its first Chief of Public Affairs and International Relations following an “extensive recruitment process.”

Anson brings to the new role extensive experience in stakeholder and government relations, project management, infrastructure and planning in the sporting sector.

Anson will be leaving his role as General Manager of Government, Venues and Major Projects at the Brisbane Lions Football Club to join the AOC in its newly created role having worked at the Australian Football League (AFL) before that.

AOC Chief Executive Matt Carroll enthused “we are thrilled to have Jake joining our senior management team at such an exciting and critical time for the Olympic Movement in this country.

“We know Jake’s work experience in Queensland positions him particularly well to have a great impact both in the lead up to and beyond Brisbane 2032, to ensure the Games’ had a lasting positive legacy for sport in the state and across Australia.

“Jake has an impressive track record of liaising with all levels of government and working closely with communities to deliver meaningful programs and opportunities for people to experience the benefits of sport.”

Anson said he looked forward to joining the AOC in the New Year adding “I’m delighted to be joining an organisation that has the task and privilege of being the custodian of the Olympic Movement in Australia, particularly as the country prepares to host a Home Games’ in 2032.

“I look forward to building on the AOC’s role as an advocate for its member sports, and ensuring Brisbane 2032 delivers maximum legacy benefits for sports, athletes and entire communities both leading into and beyond the Games.”

Anson will commence with the AOC in February 2025.
