ANZ Stadium welcomes biggest game I crowd in State of Origin history

The biggest Game I crowd in Holden State of Origin history watched the NSW VB Blues defeat the Queensland XXXX Maroons 14-6 at Sydney's ANZ Stadium last night.

The crowd of 80,380 surpassed the previous Game I record of 72,773 set in 2006.

Welcoming the crowd number, ARL Commission Chief Executive Dave Smith explained "it was a fantastic atmosphere tonight and I would like to congratulate the players for providing a wonderful spectacle, the fans for the way they got behind both teams and the NSW Government for its support of the game."

Game II of the Holden State of Origin Series will be played at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday 26th June.

More than 60,000 tickets have already been sold for Game III, also at the ANZ Stadium, on 17th July.
