Alpine Health and Fitness takes Queenstown women from strength to strength
Three Queenstown women who completed fitness, weight loss and lifestyle programmes at Alpine Health & Fitness within the last year have since gone on to compete in their first ever multisport adventure race, the Spring Challenge All Girl Adventure Race, with Alex Musgrave and her team winning the event.
Musgrave, along with Amy Green & Amanda Voyce who placed fifth, were part of a group of twenty Queenstown women and their female support crew who travelled to Christchurch as first time competitors.
Each three person team had to complete an 18 kilometre mountain bike ride, a 5 kilometre run and white water raft the Rakaia Gorge. The exact course details were only divulged to competitors the night before the race.
Musgrave, overall winner of the 2011 Revive programme, along with team mates Janet Key and Sue Slee of team 'Alabama Slammers' came first in the three hour Open Women's event with a time of 03:41:52. Amy Green, Amanda Voyce & Sharon Gower of team 'Sake Bomb' came fifth with a time of 04:26:49. Amy completed the 5-week Activate programme in February 2012 and Amanda completed the Queenstown Winter Festival Ladies Fashion Challenge in July 2012.
Haylee Roberts, Personal Trainer at Alpine Health & Fitness, helped to train a number of the women over the winter and was in Christchurch to help support the women.
A delighted Roberts explained "all the ladies were really nervous about doing an event like this for the first time, but with the support of each other, hard training and a lot of preparation they stuck to the game plan, gave 100% and really enjoyed themselves out on course. They're already looking forward to the 2013 Spring Challenge All Girl Adventure Race when it comes to Queenstown/Wanaka next year."
The Revive 2012 programme has just started with 46 locals taking part in the challenge.
