All-weather community hub to support year-round healthy, active lifestyles in Katherine
The Northern Territory Government is investing $1 million to deliver a new all weather, multi-purpose facility at the Katherine Country Club, supporting year-round community connection and healthy, active lifestyles.
The funding will enable construction of a UV-protected, rainproof cover over the Club’s recently upgraded synthetic bowling, transforming it into a versatile space for the entire community.
The new facility will host a wide range of activities, from lawn bowls and yoga to school and youth programs, corporate functions and live performances, ensuring the space is used and enjoyed in every season.
NT Minister for People, Sport and Culture Jinson Charls, said the investment is another step in delivering the CLP’s commitment to restore our lifestyle across the Territory.
Minister Charls advised “this is about building safe, active and inclusive communities, and making sure Territorians, especially in the regions, have access to quality sport and recreation facilities that support active, healthy lives at every age.
“A covered, all-weather facility like this means the Katherine community can stay active and connected year-round, whether it’s through bowls, fitness programs, or events that bring people together, no matter the season.”
Mal Trattles, Treasurer and Board member Katherine Country Club enthused“The board of Katherine Country Club are thrilled about this investment by the NT Government in lifestyle for the Katherine community.
“This all-weather cover over the Bowling Green will be of benefit to the entire Katherine community.
“It provides an all-weather open-air facility for many community groups while the club itself provides a great social atmosphere.”
