AEG Ogden announces new General Manager for the Darwin Convention Centre
AEG Ogden has announced that Janet Hamilton will replace Malu Barrios as the General Manager of the Darwin Convention Centre.
Barrios was recently appointed the General Manager of the Sydney Exhibition Centre at Glebe Island which will operate for three years while the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney at Darling Harbour is under construction.
Hamilton has served the past four years as the Manager of External Relations for Energy Resources of Australia (ERA), based in Darwin. Her role included the management of government relations, sponsorships and media issues for the Ranger mine.
Prior to moving to the Territory, Hamilton had extensive major event and project management experience with the Sydney Olympic Organising Committee, the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and Melbourne's Docklands precinct.
In 2008, Hamilton was Key Project Manager for the National Australia Banks' 150th anniversary project, delivering a 12 month national programme of events and marketing initiatives.
Announcing her appointment, AEG Ogden's Director of Convention Centres, Geoff Donaghy said her strong marketing and major event background and understanding of Territory issues ensures she is ideally qualified to take the Darwin Convention Centre to the next level.
He also paid tribute to the outstanding efforts of Malu Barrios in establishing Darwin as one of Australia's leading convention centres in just five years.
Donaghy stated "opening a new centre is always a major challenge. But the recognition Darwin has received both nationally and internationally in such a short time is testament to Malu's dedication, commitment and abilities."
