Adelaide Bid for 2013 Sevens World Cup?
The success of the International Rugby Sevens at the Adelaide Oval on 3rd to 5th April has led the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) to discuss a bid to host the 2013 Sevens World Cup with the South Australian Government.
The Syndey Morning Herald newspaper reports that ARU chief John OâNeill said the city of Adelaide may bid to host the event. This yearâs tournament â also at Adelaide â was played with close to have the Adelaide Oval venue stadium unavailable for use, but still attracted a total crowd of about 30,000. OâNeill said rebuilding work at the stadium would see an expansion of Adelaideâs role in the tournament.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, OâNeill explained "there's no firm commitment from anyone but it's been the subject of a bit of discussion ⦠the possibility of Adelaide hosting the 2013 rugby World Cup Sevens tournament is worthwhile thinking about."
