$7.2 million for South Australian sporting infrastructure

Sporting organisations across South Australia have received nearly $7.2 million in State Government funding for a range of community sporting and recreational infrastructure projects.

South Australian Recreation and Sport Minister, Tom Kenyon said the funding was being made available through the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program (CRSFP) which assists grassroots sports organisations with facility development and upgrades.

Minister Kenyon stated "(we are) committed to ensuring that sporting infrastructure in both regional and metropolitan areas is developed to the highest possible standards.

"Additional funding was allocated to CRSFP following a recent review, allowing us to provide 63 projects with $7.195 million in financial assistance through the 2012-13 CRSFP.

"These projects will make a significant contribution to local communities by increasing the level of sporting and recreation activities, which ultimately assisting in improving our health and wellbeing.

"The CRSFP has proven to be a hugely popular program, and there were many high quality applications this year from all corners of the South Australian sporting and recreational community."

"All funding is matched by the applicant through other funding sources or in-kind contributions.

"This matched funding requirement means that the program will result in nearly $36m worth of economic activity across the State."

The successful projects include:

• $2.5 million to install a second synthetic pitch with lights at Pines Hockey Stadium, Gepps Cross;
• $450,000 towards the upgrade of the Glenunga Reserve Community Sports Hub;
• $400,000 towards the expansion of soccer facilities at Adelaide Shores, West Beach;
• $200,000 to upgrade floodlighting at Vansittart Park Oval, Mount Gambier;
• $270,000 to upgrade the synthetic turf hockey pitch at the Whyalla Sporting Complex;
• $500,000 to expand the criterium cycling track at Victoria Park;
• $200,000 for an Indoor Riding for Disabled Arena at O'Halloran Hill;
• $200,000 toward the Novita Pool Redevelopment.

Applications for the next round of CRSFP are expected to open in October.
