2023 Women’s State of Origin double header matches to be played in Townsville and Sydney

The NRL has announced the women's State of Origin will be played as a double header for the first time, with matches to be played at Sydney’s CommBank Stadium and Townsville’s Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Expanding from a one-off game first being played five years ago, the first ever two-match series between the NSW Blues and Queensland Maroons will be played on Thursday 1st June at the 30,000-capacity CommBank Stadium with the reverse fixture to be played on Thursday 22nd June at the 25,000-capacity Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Announcing the venues and schedule, NRL Chief Executive, Andrew Abdo stated “women’s Origin has grown significantly since the first match in 2018.

“The matches at CommBank Stadium and Queensland Country Bank Stadium will provide another opportunity to showcase the best female players in modern stadiums in front of passionate Queensland and New South Wales fans.

“Another exciting change is that the games will be played during primetime on Thursday nights.”

Last year’s fixture at North Sydney Oval attracted 6,824 fans, with NSW winning while Townsville hosted the first-ever regional men's State of Origin match in 2021.

The men’s three-game State of Origin Series will be played at Adelaide Oval, Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium and Sydney’s Accor Stadium in May and June.
