200 Western Australian sporting clubs commit to culture change

Western Australia's community sporting clubs are leading the way in breaking the link between alcohol and sport with 200 clubs now signed-up to participate in the Good Sports program marking the one year anniversary of the program in the state.

Perth Bayswater Rugby Union is the 200th club to sign-up to the program, and the first Rugby Union Club to be accredited in Perth meaning they've already started implementing changes to make their club more family-friendly.

Club President Alister Milligan said that they were proud to be the first metro Rugby Union Club accredited, and the 200th registered in the Good Sports program.

Milligan stated "we look forward to developing smart initiatives for all our members and would recommend all rugby union and other sporting clubs get on board. A small change will change the future for many."

Good Sports WA State Manager Greg Williams said with alcohol a leading cause of preventable illness and death in Australia, breaking the link between alcohol and sport has never been more important.

Williams added "since launching the program only a year ago, we've been inundated with interest from clubs wanting to set a good example for their communities. Congratulations to the first 200 clubs to sign up and to the 50 that are now accredited as part of the program, for leading the way in alcohol management in the State."

Good Sports is supported in Western Australia by Healthway and the Drug and Alcohol Office.
