$17 million fitness and aquatic centre opens in Ku-ring-gai
The long-awaited Ku-ring-gai Fitness & Aquatic Centre opened its doors on Saturday 25th October, offering the public two weeks of free entry so that future users can familiarise themselves with the new facility.
The Centre, which offers indoor and outdoor pools and a state-of-the-art gym, is located at the site of the former West Pymble Pool in Bicentennial Park, West Pymble.
The Centre includes an outdoor 50-metre pool and outdoor learn-to-swim pool; indoor 25-metre heated pool; a warm water program pool for water-based exercise; a new indoor and outdoor toddlers pool and water play area; childminding, new change rooms and toilets; a health club and gym; a cafe for pool patrons plus a take-away service for park users and increased car parking.
Ku-ring-gai Council set aside $17 million to create the new facility, which is expected to draw patrons from across Ku-ring-gai and beyond. The YMCA will partner with Council to operate the Centre and offer a range of fitness and swimming classes.
Acknowledging delays experienced during construction, the Centre has offer unlimited free entry to the public for its first two weeks of operation from up until a family fun day, and the facility’s official opening, held on Saturday (8th November).
YMCA NSW Chair Marg Lennon explained that the YMCA was delighted to be partnering with Ku-ring-gai Council to run the Centre, stating “we believe everyone should have access to affordable community hubs, like Ku-ring-gai Fitness & Aquatic Centre, so everyone can enjoy a fit and active lifestyle. We will ensure the programs offered appeal to everyone in the family, from young bubs and mums, teens, and grandparents alike.
“Council has shown their commitment to the health and wellbeing of the Ku-ring-gai community by delivering this first class centre."
