YMCA's Cox to feature on Undercover Boss Australia
YMCA Australia Chief Operating Officer, Nick Cox is set to feature in an episode of the second season of the Ten Network's Undercover Boss Australia.
It's the first time in the world that a charity has been profiled on this high rating and popular show which regularly attracted 1.24 million viewers last season.
For the show, Cox went undercover as 'a potential staff member' and enjoyed uncovering some great stories that reflect the Y's diversity in terms of its people, programs and services across the nation. Along the way he cleaned a few toilets, scrubbed graffiti off walls, helped run activities for kids on camp, in the pool and in children's services.
For Cox, the opportunity to showcase the Y's work to a wider audience was worth any personal risk of embarrassment, and he does get put through his paces by five YMCA employees and the various participants in the programs they run - and makes a few errors along the way.
"It was all worth it," explains Cox, who in real life began his long-serving career with the Y as a volunteer.
"I met some absolutely amazing, diverse and dedicated Y employees along the way, who were each having incredible impact in their local communities. We could only share five great stories, but they do represent just five of 10,000 stories we could have shared that all tell the same YMCA story of our commitment to building stronger people, families and communities."
The YMCA episode features Nick's interaction with Clarissa at Jewell House in Perth (budget accommodation), Shane at Camp Yarramundi in NSW, Alan and Beau at the Rebuild Program in Victoria (which provides young people exiting the youth justice system with employment and training), Thierra at South Hedland Aquatic Centre in Western Australia, running the Swim for Life aquatic education program for young Aborignal people, and James, who oversees several children's services in Newcastle.
Undercover Boss Australia is broadcast on the Ten Network on Mondays at 8.30pm.
The episode featuring Nick Cox is expected to be screened during October.
