YMCA appointed to manage the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre

Following a national tender process, the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre Authority (FRACA) has appointed YMCA South Australia to manage the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre which is scheduled to open in March 2017.

Anouncing the appointment, Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre Authority Chairperson David Cooke said he was thrilled to award the management contract for the highly anticipated facility to the YMCA, stating “the Authority were impressed with YMCA’s nationwide experience in running sporting and aquatic facilities for Local Government.

“This coupled with their experience in the management of new facilities, proven business delivery record and commitment to providing innovative community leisure programs makes them a great candidate to manage our facility.”

YMCA has signed a three year agreement to manage the facility and Chief Executive Haydn Roberts said the not-for-profit organisation is proud to add the management of the new Fleurieu Aquatic Centre to its impressive stable of leisure facilities in South Australia.

Roberts stated “the YMCA are excited by the opportunity to build new community partnerships and to promote healthy participation across the Fleurieu region.”

YMCA will soon commence the process of recruiting staff and has a focus on local employment. They have already commenced working with the Council’s project team and the construction company, Kennett Pty Ltd, to provide advice on operational systems and the final fit-out.

The Fleurieu Aquatic Centre will include an eight lane 25 metre swimming pool, a multi-use program pool, a warm water pool, crèche facility, commercial kiosk, office accommodation, change rooms and an outdoor splash area.

The Fleurieu Aquatic Centre project is an initiative of the Alexandrina Council and City of Victor Harbor, with funding support of $7.5 million from the Australian Government, $500,000 from the South Australian Government and a generous land donation from Beyond Today.
