WOW Wipes report increased orders during Coronavirus crisis

With fitness facilities looking to enhance their cleaning during the current Coronavirus crisis, and members being urged, more than ever, to use disinfectant wipes to cleanse all equipment before and after use, Rob Maclachlan, Director of anti-bacterial/disinfectant wipes supplier Wow Wipes has advised of increasing orders.

Speaking to Australasian Leisure Management, Maclachlan stated “we’ve noticed that current fitness/leisure customers are ordering more frequently and that order quantities are larger.

"In some cases order requests have been for excessive quantities, which we have communicated to customers in order to ease the strain on stock levels."

In the current climate, Maclachlan sees that facilities are reporting increased usage of wipes by their members and patrons, which, he says “is understandable as the general public is being bombarded by all media about Coronavirus - some of which are over sensationalised - so hygiene is front of mind for many people currently.”

He adds “we are also noticing more new fitness and leisure businesses have recently started to offer WOW wipes for their customers. This is an extension of the current community awareness/concern about hygiene in public spaces, and hence the desire for businesses to provide a quick and convenient hygiene solution for their members/staff/customers/patrons.

“We see increased hygiene measures by the general public in fitness facilities as a good thing, but that hygiene wipes should be viewed as part of an overall ’suite’ of good hygiene practice rather than the primary practice.”

Advice is that the most important thing people should be doing is washing their hands thoroughly and regularly with warm soapy water, and avoiding touching their eyes, nose, and mouth where possible.

In addition people can use a hand sanitiser if desired as another layer of protection, but that washing hands as described above has been found to be more effective than simply using hand sanitiser on its own).

Maclachlan goes on to say that “in a fitness environment, using a towel is basic etiquette and a hygiene ‘must’.

“WOW Wipes usage should supplement the above practices by wiping down shared surfaces before and after use - cardio consoles, bike handles, barbells, etc. WOW Wipes can also be used as a Hand sanitiser.

“Importantly, if people feel unwell they should avoid the gym altogether as an infected individual can easily spread their condition to other gym users in such a closed environment.”
